2017 Mint 400 in Las Vegas, The Great American Race is Won!
This weekend on March 1st thru 5th of 2017, the Mint 400 made its way back to Las Vegas for another extreme annual off-road desert race. The Great American Off-Road Race is the oldest and perhaps most difficult race in North America as 350 teams compete on a 120-mile loop from Las Vegas to Primm at the California-Nevada state line. Drivers gear up for the race with Cool Truck Accessories & Custom Truck Parts to get their off-road vehicles up to snuff for the week-long activities.
The Great American Race began in 1967 when Norm Johnson organized a race of two dune buggies across 6oo-miles of hot, dry desert to the Sahara Hotel in Lake Tahoe. The race attracted huge media attention and began the start of an annual off-road race that would continue uninterrupted until 1988. Twenty years later General Tire resurrected the race and this rugged American pastime continues every year now bringing in up to 60,000 spectators annually.
Mint 400 owners, The Martelli Brothers and Best in the Desert's Casey Folks, brought their tough off-road competition back to Las Vegas for another year of desert off-road racing with five huge spectator areas for fans to watch as competitors roar through the course.
The Mint 400's annual racecar procession down the Las Vegas strip kickED off the event on Wednesday, March 1. The following day, members of the general public can qualify for unlimited trick trucks and select classes. The fun continued Wednesday night on Fremont Street with time trial results, a professional pit crew challenge, and of course the crowning of the 2017 Miss Mint 400.
Contingency and technical inspection for all 350 vehicles took place on Friday as they parade down Fremont Street before fans and leading OEM's and aftermarket product companies. This is the last showcase in front of fans and industry before the actual race kicked off on Saturday with the Limited Class Race beginning at sunrise and the Unlimited Class Race took off just after noon.
Rob MacCachren Wins 2017 Polaris RZR Mint 400 Las Vegas native Rob MacCachren, who, in his 30-year career has won nearly every race and championship imaginable, finally sealed the deal earlier tonight on the one that’s eluded him, taking the win at the 2017 Polaris RZR Mint 400 presented by BFGoodrich Tires.
“It’s good to get this monkey off my back!” said an elated MacCachren, drenched in champagne on stage after crossing the finish line with an unofficial time of five hours, 37 minutes, 35 seconds after three laps of the 116-mile course outside Primm, Nevada. And Of course, no race would be complete without an after party for celebration and the Mint 400 Champions Party kicks off at 9 pm Saturday night with an Awards Brunch on Sunday at 11 am.
